A kitchen tool can feel perfectly fine when someone first picks it up.

Dishwasher heat, detergent, water pressure, and drying cycles can affect surfaces and joints. Some handles become rougher. Some coatings lose their original feel. Some connections between materials become less tight.

The tool may still be “dishwasher safe” in a basic sense. It does not crack or melt. But comfort may still decline.

This is an important distinction.

A product can remain functional while becoming less pleasant to use.

For brands, this is worth considering during product development. Long-term testing should not only ask whether the tool survives washing. It should also ask whether the grip still feels good, whether the balance remains stable, and whether the handle still feels clean and secure in the hand.
